Psychological Safety in the Workplace - Part 1

While good leaders care about business impact, great leaders focus more on psychological impact

Employees should not be afraid of their managers or team leaders and should feel secure enough to express their ideas and thoughts to them without fear of negative consequences. When employees feel psychologically safe, they are more likely to be engaged, innovative, and productive, which directly benefits the organization.

It is prevalent in many places that employees experience panic attacks when receiving calls or feedback from their managers. This is a clear indication that the company is not providing a psychologically safe environment. This can lead to employee burnout, poor mental health, and a lack of motivation to perform well at work.

Encouraging feedback systems is an excellent way to promote a psychologically safe workplace. Feedback should be given not only to new joiners but should be encouraged to be taken by all employees, including managers and team leaders. This two-way feedback system can help prevent bullying and create a culture of open communication, respect, and trust.
